About the School

Founded in 1977 by Suzanne Burnham-Jones, the school takes its name from Blue Bell Hill Village – where classes were first held. The school now teaches approximately 180 pupils in four centres.

Miss Sue was trained by Russian ballerina Lydia Kyasht and so we specialise in Russian Ballet, following the teaching methods of Agrippina Vaganova.

We offer classes in many dance other dance styles - tap, modern, contemporary, street and we have a theatre school where you can act, sing and dance.

Pupils achieve excellent examination & festival/competition results. Many continue their dance studies at university or dance college & several have become professional performers or work in other dance & arts related professions. Many leave us with a life long love of dancing and take the skills they learned with us – determination, team work, creativity and self-confidence – on into their chosen professions.

Our Mission Statement

To provide excellent teaching and learning, specialising in Classic Ballet (Russian Method)

To create an environment in which we create and seek out opportunities for every pupil to be the best dancer and performer they can be

To include pupils of all ages, abilities, physicalities and ethnicities

To serve our community by introducing children and young people to the joy of dance and performing arts through participation in performances, encouraging creativity, achievement in examinations and participation in competitions

Exams & Competitions

We hold NATD examination sessions at least twice a year. Students have the opportunity to take grade exams and performance awards in many of our dance disciplines.

Some students take part in external competitions and compete against other young dancers. Many win medals and trophies and some have competed at national level. Some students move on to full time performance training and become professional performers. Some students attend classes at prestigious schools in London or perform professionally with national companies.

But our ethos always about every individual student being the best dancer they can.

Personal achievement is much celebrated within the school and at our annual presentation of awards.
